Project Goals and Outcomes
The Project will demolish the remainder of the collapsing South Jetty concrete deck, repair the pilings and bulkheads, pour a new concrete deck, and install new fenders, bollards, cleats, and electrified shore power service.
When completed, the Project will provide a safe and functional wet berthing for large break-bulk and dry-bulk cargo vessels and enable safe cargo onload and offload, along with additional vessel berthing space and electrified shore-to-ship service, adding a much-needed capability to the RLFMP public port complex.

To align with this strategy, the following goals are proposed:
- Convert unused waterfront space to efficiently and equitably support the movement of goods through the port and region.
- Develop a non-container cargo hub to support the freight needs of the Boston area, which will reduce road congestion and greenhouse gas emissions.
- Provide good-paying, high quality union jobs and wealth creation opportunities to Economically Distressed Areas (EDAs) located near the Port of Boston.
- Foster economic growth of the businesses around the Port of Boston waterfront.
- Induce additional public investments in workforce training and a workforce development center to develop the skills of local workers, including recruitment of nearby workers from EDA communities.
